April Pool’s Day

April Pool’s Day is a program designed to prevent drownings by inspiring young children to take water safety seriously. Both children and adults will learn about the hazards associated with water and how to deal with them safely. Gift bags will be given to the first 200 children that visit all the demonstrations. Meet the Chick-fil-A Cow, Bobber the Water Safety Dog, and Jose the Otter! Free and open to the public. Anyone who has small children or is expecting is encouraged to attend. Harris County ESD 48 Fire Department (HCESD 48) personnel will give an informative tutorial on their newest effort to help their residents address common fire hazards within the home. The Home Safety Survey is a key part of HCESD 48’s Community Risk Reduction strategy, and they will be sharing an overview of the program (hazards identified, prevention education, exit drills, and common recommendations) as well as their vision for how, with the help of area Municipal Utility Districts and neighboring Fire Departments, you can help spread this life-saving program across Harris and Fort Bend counties. Katy Area Safety Fest

The Harris County ESD 48 Fire Department will host it’s second annual Safety Fest, sponsored by Katy Mills. The event is free to the public and will feature personnel, equipment, and apparatus from 20+ agencies that serve the Greater Katy area. There will be Fire and EMS demonstrations, a Life Flight helicopter landing, Junior Firefighter Challenge, an inflatable play area, and more.

Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus Family Fun Run

Families with children of all abilities are invited to participate in this event. The run will include both a 1K and 3K course. Those needing walkers and wheelchairs are welcome. All participants will receive an award. The race will take place rain or shine. For safety reasons, dogs, wagons, bikes, skates and roller blades are not allowed on the race course. Registration will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017. There will be no exceptions to the deadline. To register, visit texaschildrens.org.

Typhoon Texas Kids Triathlon

Registration is now open for the largest kids’ triathlon in the world. Sign your little athlete up. Short course includes a 100-meter swim, 2-mile bike ride, and a 1-mile run, the long course will have a 200-meter swim, 4-mile bike ride, and 2-mile run. Event is limited to 1,000 kids per course.
