Barbeque Benefit and Raffle

Rebecca Martin was diagnosed with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma in November 2012. This rare, aggressive cancer is diagnosed in about 100 women every year. She faces additional radiation treatment and chemotherapy. Family and friends have organized the benefit. BBQ plates are $10 each, raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 (over $6,000 in prizes), bounce houses, a live DJ, face painting, caricatures, and much more! All proceeds with help the Martin family defray medical costs and daily living expenses while continuing to battle this cancer. British Regency Holiday Traditions

Hear about holiday traditions from the British Regency era of the early 1800s when Fort Bend County Libraries, in conjunction with the Jane Austen Society of North America – Greater Houston Region, as they present this program. Local author Grace Scheufler will share her extensive research of the majestic Regency era in which Jane Austen lived and wrote. Hear how the British people of that era celebrated the holidays, including how they dressed, the types of food they served, and how they decorated their homes. English tea and light finger-foods that are reflective of the time period will be served. The program is free and open to the public. Free SAT Practice Test

Representatives from Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions will conduct a free practice SAT test at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library in the multi-purpose room of the library. Students will take a full-length practice SAT test to gain experience and become better prepared for the actual test. The test is three hours and 45 minutes long, and consists of three sections – Critical Reading, Writing, and Math. Students may bring a non-graphing calculator and two #2 pencils. The session is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Registration opens on September 18.
