Chess Day For All

Chess players of all ages and skill levels – from beginners to advanced – are invited to practice their strategies and share tips with others at a special “Chess Day at the Library.” Learn a new chess move (or two) during this come-and-go event. Experienced players will be on hand to provide tips and assistance. A limited number of chess sets will be provided, but players are welcome to bring their own sets as well. This event is free to the public.

Katy Prairie Conservancy’s Indiangrass Preserve

Stretch your legs and breathe some fresh prairie air as you take a short stroll through Indiangrass Preserve to look for signs of bird life on the prairie. You are likely to spot some of the many waterfowl, wading, and grassland birds that call the Katy Prairie their winter home. A guided hike will be lead from 10 – 11:30 am if you would like to learn more about the prairie and the wildlife around you. The preserve will be open all day, so feel free to come by for a self-guided tour any time. Visit  katyprairie.org/directions.

Katy Half Marathon, 5K, Kids 1K

Runners of all ages and experience levels can participate in the half marathon, 5K, and kids’ 1K. The race will begin in front of Bass Pro Shops and will encircle the City of Katy area before returning to Katy Mills Mall and ending near Sun & Ski Sports. Katy High School Presents: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Mayde Creek High School Presents: In The Heights Musical

In the Heights is a musical with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. The story is set over the course of three days, involving characters in the largely Hispanic-American neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City.

One Tough Buckeye Annual Glow Run Benefiting the Jim Randolph Memorial Scholarship Fund

Shrek The Musical is a musical with music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. It is based on the 2001 DreamWorks film Shrek and William Steig’s 1990 book Shrek! Join the Falcons theater for a night of fun with Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and all their friends. Showtimes at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. performance on Saturday.
