TSO Offers Eye Care Tips Katy, Texas News Posted August 18, 2008
Eye care professionals have an important message for parents who believe school eye screenings can detect every vision problem: They can’t. Rose Virani, O.D., with Texas State Optical (TSO) in Katy, says there are ways to ensure your child is getting proper eye care.Vision changes over time and children should get professional eye exams every year, even if there are no apparent problems. Early help can make all the difference. First, review your family’s health history because genetics count. If someone in the family has suffered from misaligned eyes, childhood cataracts or another serious eye disease, it’s even more important to see an eye care professional. Next, protect your kids’ eyes.More than 40,000 eye injuries occur every year during sports activities and almost all are preventable.Lastly, check in with the teacher.Teachers notice signs and symptoms that parents may miss. Often, they can spot eye problems early. Ask your child’s teacher to alert you to anything unusual. Ultimately though, it’s important to schedule an eye exam with a qualified eye care professional.

Gomez is celebrated for establishing an educational environment that is both productive and nurturing. According to her principal, Olga Leonard, “Teresa displays a sincere love and dedication to each and every one of her students. These qualities that she exudes so freely come from within, and not from a book or an education course.” Gomez was chosen among countless other bilingual teachers throughout surrounding districts and will move on to compete at the state level with the Texas Association for Bilingual Education.
